When Jim Carr asked me to facilitate the strategic planning process for the BACB, the organization had about a dozen employees. Certificants world-wide were about 15,000.
Recently I talked with Jim about the growth the BACB had experienced. I wasn’t quite prepared for the answer.
Today, the BACB employs almost 80 staff. That’s growth of over 540%.
Since 2014, the number of certificants has grown to over 122,000. That translates into growth of over 700%.
Jim explained that the strategic plan provided the foundation for creating an organizational structure that supported long-term growth.
A few years ago he told me that he had his “doubts about the utility of the process when our Board first raised the issue. However, after going through the planning process with you, I am confident that the plan you helped us create will be very useful for the organization and the discipline.”
No matter where you are in your journey with your organization, creating a strategic plan will be a good investment.
